It's been a challenging year with a lot of learning. But I’m most grateful for my good health and the strength that God has given me to learn from setbacks in order to move on to the next level. I’m grateful to have my family and true friends beside me through whatever weather. And I couldn’t be more thankful for everyone who has supported Hello Again Vintage and inspired us to keep going.

Let's look ahead to the possibilities of 2012 and make it happen! Stay safe and have a Happy New Year, everyone!

Featured Photographer: Robert Marriott

Tell us about yourself.
I am full time and experienced photographer originally from Derbyshire, but now based in Kent (Margate).  I have been a photographer since 2004 and I cover weddings, civil partnership's, portraits and modeling portfolios, as well as commissioned work.

Did you always have an interest in photography?
I have always had a love for photography, and I have always taken advantage of documenting everything I see of interest, from landscapes and architecture to people going about their everyday lives.  I started professionally back in 2004 working at car shows and have developed from there into the work I do now.

How did you first become a photographer?
The first time I worked as a professional photography was when I started to go to car cruise events in Derbyshire.  After going to a couple, I was approached by two models who asked if I would do a photo shoot of them.  After the first shoot, I decided to make the step of moving from an amateur photographer to becoming a full time professional.

Who are your mentors (in photography)?
David LaChapelle - My favorite photographer for his creative and extrovert images. His work made me want to move across to the world of fashion.

David Glover and Andy Gordon - Both personal friends and fellow photographers. Have used their year's of experience in the field to assist me in my photography career.

Dolce and Gabbana - Their work also attracted me to working in fashion photography, and I have continued to be a fan of their campaigns ever since.

What drives your creative work?
Ideas and images I see on TV and in magazines, such as Vogue, Deviantart, fashion blogs, and TV advertisements.  Seeing a creative work of art inspires me to want to try something new and different.

What advice would you offer aspiring photographers?
Always test and try out every idea you have, no matter how small or silly it may be.  You are an artist, the same as a painter and even they create art that does not always work out, but they never give up.  Some of the work I have done in the past I look back on and see how far I have come, determination and a never give in attitude is key to success.

How do you keeps you inspired when things get difficult?
I tend to go out on location with my camera.  It's amazing how inspired you get being surrounded by beautiful buildings and scenery and popping into local vintage shops, galleries. Also by flicking though fashion magazines and browsing the internet.  A good editorial campaign always gets my creative juices flowing.

What was the best advice anyone gave to you?
My fiancĂ©e, Claire, has always given me so much advice and support, but one of the best things she ever advised me was to move from Glamour Photography into the world of Fashion and to put my rates up – LOL!  She has always told me to never give up on my career and follow your heart and what I believe in.

What projects are you currently working on?
I have regular clients, such as websites, that I am constantly working with, but currently I am working at building up a high fashion portfolio with local business around the Kent area, helping them showcase their Vintage and Retro merchandise.

How do you hope to be remembered when your time comes? What would you like your famous last words to be if you had the chance to choose?
As a creative photographer who never gave up on any idea no matter how ridiculous.
My last words would be – “I am a Ninja, feel my feather duster!!”

Where can people find out more about your work?

Many thanks to all who were involved.

A Little Eyeliner Goes a Long Way

Even if I don't get a chance to put on face powder, I never leave home without a little eyeliner.  It opens up your eyes and whenever you bat those lashes, you'll be noticed!

Modern 50s Chic: Cat Eye Sunglasses

It's so true when they say 'history repeats itself'.  Marilyn Monroe was famous for wearing cat eye sunglasses in the 50s, but after spotting Kourtney Kardashian rocking them, I was in love.  It's an easy way to glam any outfit - like that simple summer-to-fall floral dress & denim jacket combo.  What do you think?!

Well, luckily I snagged a bunch of Deadstock Vintage Cat Eye Sunglasses on last month's treasure hunting spree and they're now for sale at the online shop!

Meow.. Express your inner kitten, girls! ♥

2.  When I was 12 yrs. old, I was diagnosed with paraplegia 'cause of a failed scoliosis operation.  The doctor said that I'd never walk again, but that didn't stop me from relearning.  And now I'm training for a half-marathon.

3.  I used to lip sync in the high school choir and whenever I tried to really sing, the director would say that someone was out of key.  :/

Betsey Johnson SS11 Collection + Sample Sale

You may or may not know that I absolutely love Betsey Johnson, but her Le Tour to Betsey Spring/Summer '11 Collection is by far my favorite. The unsurprisingly funky and feminine overstuffed, BIG short skirts caught my attention. ♥

These are just a few of my favorites:

And guess what?  The Betsey Johnson Sample Sale started today @ Millennium Broadway Hotel (145 W. 44th St., NYC).  I'll be there tomorrow racking up for the Spring!  Don't miss it.

Please Be Good to Me April

I found this cute little poster while dabbling around on the internet and had to share 'cause Hello Kitty always reminds me of my childhood - Ok, ok, teenage years...and adulthood too!

I'm sure you've seen copies of the original 'Keep Calm and Carry On' poster all over the place, even on etsy.

Ever wonder the meaning behind this?  Here's a tidbit via Wikipedia:

Keep Calm and Carry On was a poster produced by the British government in 1939 during the beginning of the World War II, intended to raise the morale of the British public under the threat of impending invasion. It was little known and never used. The poster was rediscovered in 2000 and has been re-issued by a number of private sector companies, and used as the decorative theme for a range of other products.

Happy April!  Positive vibes all around.  And try not to get fooled today.

A Tribute to Elizabeth Taylor

"I feel very adventurous.  There are so many doors to be opened, and I'm not afraid to look behind them." - Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor as Maggie in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (c.1956)

Today, one of Hollywood's legendary beauties, Dame Elizabeth Taylor, passed away at the age of 79 due to heart failure.  Not only was she an iconic film actress, but she was also known for her glamorous style.  She often dressed in simple, yet sexy satin dresses usually complimented by jewelry that she was also never afraid to show off.  In fact, she made diamonds a part of her daily wardrobe - it was like a secret love affair.

In addition to being a fashion icon, Elizabeth became an advocate for HIV and AIDS awareness.  After the death of her friend, Rock Hudson, she used her success to open The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation and raised millions for the cause.

Elizabeth Taylor's kind heart, beauty, and style are legendary.

TREND: Embellished Shoulder Pads

Tasseled shoulder pads were a big hit in the 80's and then made a come-back in '09, but I'm still loving it! ♥

It's such a great way to add some glam to a simple top.

Don't you just want to revamp your blah cardigan now - 'cause I sure do.  Check out this super easy tutorial by Sanam of Day By Diva.

Thinking of Japan

I'm sure most of the world has heard by now of the devastating earthquake in parts of Japan that created a series of tsunamis.

In the coming days and months, the people of Japan will need our help.  So until the end of March, 50% 100% of ALL sales at Hello Again Vintage will be donated to the Japan Earthquake Relief at the American Red Cross.  Or you can also make a donation (at any dollar amount) by clicking below.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all who have been affected by yet another natural disaster.

Please help spread the word.  Thanks!

*Don't forget that you can also text REDCROSS at 90999 to make a $10 donation.

There's still tons of snow, but all I can think about is Spring!  Yes, Spring! It's the best season for vintage fashionistas to show off her stuff instead of hiding behind that big, bulky winter coat.

Adding vintage flair to your current wardrobe can turn your ordinary outfit into something unique and trendy.

Check out these looks I've created and be inspired.
